Windows 7 hide user logon screen
I have a public access deployment of computers that require use of the "Welcome Screen". The key still works in Win 7 but CAD no longer prompts for a user logon.
Are you using an Active Directory Domain? The options you want to look at start with "Interactive logon". To clarify, I don't think OP wants to go back to typing in usernames and hiding last logged on user. He wants to continue using the Welcome Screen, but hide Admin, and keep it still usable. Here's the problem. If I hide the admin account which is the only account authorized to make registry changes, I cannot unhide it.
When the Welcome screen is enabled CAD does nothing. Yes if you restart in safe mode you can enter the registry and change the value. My problem is I want to be able to work on these computers remotely which leaves out a reboot into safe mode. The only idea I have is locking them with a program like Centurion SmartShield and disabling the registry when locked.
Of course that would mean that I would have to allow non admin users access to the registry and make sure SmartShield was turned on to prevent access. Hi Calvin, From the post, I think you are trying to disable other accounts to logon instead of hide them in welcome screen. Christian, No, I should describe the steps more clearly as follows: 1. The problem I have is the "Other User" and I want to disable it because it will allow the end user to log on as domain account.
Thank you. Regards, Calvin. We may not able to do so. And it is not safe to disable all other users logon that computer especially the computer is in domain. If it corrupts, local admin will also failed to login. Maybe quit domain when logoff the computer is an option. Sunday, October 25, AM. Tuesday, October 27, PM. The following will work for a computer in a workgroup using the welcome page. Put all the accounts in that subkey.
I have also confirmed this on my Windows 7 Ultimate computer I use at home. I use the hidden but not disabled accounts to provide share access in a workgroup environment, so I don't want to see them on the logon page.
I think the proper workaround for share access is using homegroups instead, but I don't think it provides enough granularity for me. Wednesday, October 28, AM. It is wierd. I have been doing same thing last 2 days for many times but it only worked today. One think i have done though, i have cleared Name section of user account.
Ok, it now looks like I have a problem, I tried the above mentioned solution, and now I can't use my first account which has administrator rights anymore; I can't even do a Runas anymore so I can't undo the change in the registry.

Hi, I wanted to do the same, follow the initial instructions and then was also blocked, because I hide the only administrator account. Found 2 solutions apart from using Win 7 DVD to correct the situation: I activated previously the remote session, so I was able to login with Remote Desktop with administrator account, I know not everyone could have it enabled, so the next option should help everyone: In standard or guest account, Shift-Right Click Regedit and select "Run as different user" and then I was able to use the hidden account and revert the setting or run any other process.
The objective from my point of view is a combination of security and facilitate the common users login, is that common users only see standard account on welcome screen, but when needed, a power user still can do configuration tasks. I will test if doing option 2 when needed is a feasible way to administer this secured computer. Sunday, February 13, AM. Re: ArcadiaZone I tried the method you posted it works as for removing a user account.
Wednesday, March 16, AM. Just to clarify the issue for everyone: In XP, you could control which accounts were visible on the welcome screen.

Hi, First of all, you have to logon to your system using current administrator password. Click the Start menu and in the search box you have to type control userpasswords2. You could click the control userpasswords2 under the Programs.
This would launch User Accounts dialog box. After that, you need to enter your current username and the password.
You need to click OK and restart the system. Monday, August 29, AM. That is exactly what I was looking to do! As for Windows 8, I'm not looking forward to Metro management. Tuesday, September 27, PM. All wanted to do was hide all the accounts from being seen at the login screen, not hide them from Windows. How can i get my accounts back? Going though these replys did not help as most seem to require another non-admin account, which i do not have. System restore doesnt do jack crap.

I have a question: I would like to be able to hide the remote desktop user accounts I want to use on the server from being displayed on the Windows 10 login screen. Do you know how I can do this? It is possible to hide user accounts from the Windows 7, 8 and 10 login screen using a registry entry. Below I'll explain how to do this step-by-step.
I need more computer questions. If you have a computer question - or even a computer problem that needs fixing - please email me with your question so that I can write more articles like this one. I can't promise I'll respond to all the messages I receive depending on the volume , but I'll do my best. About the author: Dennis Faas is the owner and operator of Infopackets.
