Autocad layout thumbnails
The default value is x pixels. Specifies whether the size of 2D wireframe thumbnail previews is controlled by maximum size in pixels settings. By default, the preview will have a maximum size of pixels. Controls whether thumbnail previews are updated when the drawing is saved. Drawing Save a Thumbnail Preview Image Controls whether thumbnail preview images are saved within the drawing. Use the Home View Uses the Home view saved with the drawing to generate the thumbnail preview for the drawing.
In the following illustration, paper space is active. There are currently only two objects in paper space: a drawing border block, and a single layout viewport , which displays a view of model space.
Working with layout viewports is described in more detail later in this topic. There are four different methods in AutoCAD that are used to scale views, notes, labels, and dimensions. Each method has its advantages depending on how the drawing will be used.
Here's a brief summary of each of the methods:. Talk to other AutoCAD users in your discipline about these four methods and why they chose the method that they use.
The first thing that you should do when you access a layout tab 1 is right-click the tab 2 and rename it 3 to something more specific than Layout 1. Next, open the Page Setup Manager 4 to change the paper size displayed in the layout tab.
A layout viewport is an object that is created in paper space to display a scaled view of model space. You can think of it as a closed-circuit TV monitor that displays part of model space. In the illustration, model space is active and accessible from within the current layout viewport.
In a layout, when model space is active, you can pan and zoom, and anything else that you could do on the Model tab. For example, let's say that you created a backyard deck design in model space, and now you want to lay out and print your design from a layout tab.
The view in the layout viewport is not yet set to the correct scale. Here are the steps to follow if you use the trans-spatial method of annotating your drawing:. When I'm drafting, I want speed and accuracy. I don't need to see the Layout Tab Thumbnail. It pops up when I don't need to look at it. I know what the layout tab represents by the name I've assigned to it. Go to Solution. Solved by john.
No worries. There are several competing products out there that still offer perpetual licenses. It's a free market, and it's your money. There really aren't. Autodesk bought out all of the other companies for the most part that were of any serious competition, at least in Architecture anyway. Much of the industry only accepts and can use Autodesk formatted documents as well because they invested so heavily in it.
I guess always taking advantage of your customer base is best practice though. And letting others fall into the same trap is great since they're your competition.
Except that I'm in a nitch market so it gets harder to work with other firms everyday because some stupid interface modification was made that doesn't get either of us ahead and gives no one an advantage, just more marketing material for Autodesk.
But you're right. Maybe all we need is some Creative Destruction in this here market. I'm all for it. AutoCAD and still exactly the same problems. You could put up with this if the software was free or open source To get to different sheet views I import them to a new sheet set. What a ridiculous amount of work for a workaround! Unlikely inspired and disgruntled, I am bleeding thousands of dollars every year for a software which is probably only a couple of bucks worth of upgrade at best.
No wonder why Autodesk has chosen to beat it and move on to an even more greedy model, now offering the only option to lease. It obviously shows the one thing that Autodesk really cares about and it is not about refining and making more robust and reliable software. I got a pretty cool idea.. I don't see the point, i don't know anybody that uses it. It's literally a waste of space and it can lock up your drawings.
I've been running now for three days, and just had it freeze again yesterday because of this. I had to kill ACAD via the task manager. This is a completely, useless, feature. Why was it ever implemented?
Why would I want to hover my cursor for a tiny preview, when in less time, I can click on the tab and see the full view?
I don't create layouts simply to stare at them, or their previews. I'm either switching to a layout to make changes, or print. The preview helps with neither. At best it gets in the way, at worst it locks up my software.
The latter being more common. How many years of feedback do they have now to figure out whats not working? Can't help but think these ideas are not driven by members in the industry.
Anyone had too many drawings open and the drawings tab drop-down button on the right disappears? I mean seriously! Anyone checking this code before it goes out? What exactly is all the fuss about?
I've never had issue with the previews and occasionally use them and there is an option to turn them off. I'm not on board with the Autodesk bashing. I'm sure the dev team is very capable, and the software does most things very well. The fuss , is that the previews generated from the layout tabs are frequently causing AutoCAD to crash.
If you've ever lost work because of a crash, I'm sure you can understand our frustration. Judging by the level of interest in this topic alone, in addition to several other threads on the same issue - even dating back to - it appears to be a real problem for many users. Hardly insignificant. People don't come to the forums and create a multi-page topic to complain about nothing. And no, there is no option to turn it off.
