What comes in windows 8 pro

No keyboard or mouse required. Running desktop Windows apps is great, although the screen is too small for these apps. March 5, Let me preface my comments with I already own a Surface RT device. So I can easily compare the two devices, along with other tablets or laptops that I already own. My first impression when unboxing was that the device, and packaging was absolutely gorgeous.

Microsoft has really accomplished making a great first impression. The hardware just feels solid and high-end. Once you turn it on and walk through the initial setup, the screen is absolutely stunning. Very sharp, vibrant colors and great viewing angles. The display is one of the things that people comment on the most. This is the device that the Surface RT wanted to be. The Surface Pro is a great companion device for me. Meaning that it travels well, runs full versions of Office including Outlook, and enables me to update presentations or spreadsheets on the go.

It also is connected to all of my various data sources and really provides that "in the office" feeling of a traditional laptop. And since it is running the Windows 8 Pro and has a TPM chip you can enable Bitlocker to encrypt your drive to safeguard your data if stolen or lost.

The only gripe that I have is with the battery life. With full brightness, wireless and Bluetooth on, I average less than 4 hours. Which means that you must carry the charger unless your just going to a quick meeting. While this isn't a huge detractor, it is something to be aware of. Hopefully with the next generation of the Surface Pro they will utilize the Intel Haswell processor which is supposed to increase battery life substantially.

Overall, I am extremely happy with this device and encourage anyone considering it to go ahead and buy it. March 1, Just perfect for what I need! I'd be including the reviewers here as well. Granted the reviews written by users are skewed since buyers are always biased, but the professional reviewers come with their own skew. In the case of the Surface Pro, this is pretty apparent. First it's not an iPad or an Ultrabook. There seems to be a need to classify it in terms of something that already exists. I'm not sure what it is, but I am sure it's something else entirely, so I'll describe it by what it can do.

This thing is small. I use a type cover with it that stays on all the time and I can carry it around the office in the same way I carry a paper and pen notebook. It replaces the notebook because I can scribble and draw on it in exactly the same way as I would paper. It has the added benefit of converting my scribbles into text, while preserving the sketches I draw. It's also connected to every data source I have, so in any meeting or wherever I am, I can pull up any document or program that might be needed.

If I'm traveling and need to update something I find a place to work, flip out the keyboard and make the changes. Because it's Windows, it works exactly like the environment I'm used to. I'm able to easily exchange data and to work in as many windows and programs as I need.

I can access all my files wherever they are instead of having to do all the hoop jumping required to do the same thing using IOS or Android. The type cover is always there and completely usable. I have a blue tooth mouse that I can get out and I'm able to work pretty much anywhere with almost no setup fuss. It wouldn't be my choice to work for hours this way, but the point is that it's not always practical to use a full sized laptop and it's not possible to work this way on a tablet.

The web experience is exactly the same as on a laptop or desktop. Every site works properly. Every site is as fast as it's going to be on any computer. There is a touch friendly version of the browser that is so much better than the browser on any other mobile device, it's not even fair to compare. One of the reasons there are so many apps in the IOS and Android App store is to make up for the shortcomings of the mobile browsing experience.

One of the things that reviewers do when describing the screen size is to compare it to an iPad when they talk about use by touch and compare it to a laptop when they talk about keyboard and mouse. They simultaneously complain that's too big and too small. I'd say that an iPad is too small and mobile phone-like for many of the things I want to do, and a laptop is too big to be conveniently available many of the times I need to use it.

It's all in the spin. This thing is powerful. It's more powerful than most computers people have either at home or in the office. Plug in a mouse, keyboard, and display, and it's a traveling desktop replacement.

The display on the Surface itself is still active too, so you get a nice touch and pen interface to use with the full size display. It's way better than most people have right now on their desks. A keyboard, mouse, and display at work, with the same setup at home, and the Surface travels easily between them. For meetings or carrying around the house, unplug it and go.

I plug it back in when I work at my desk. I work for a huge company with offices all over the world. I can show up in any office and plug my Surface into the display, mouse, and keyboard at any workstation there and work all day using my own computer like I would in my own office.

This thing is expensive but I'm not sure it could reasonably be sold for less. They both come in at about the same price and neither of them have the same kind of high end feel as the Surface. Since then I've dutifully replaced it with new versions and I now have the third Gen version. I've spent a fair bit of money on tablets.

Apple is not giving these things away, and when I bought my first Gen iPad, the reviewers were all talking about how much it cost relative to what it did. I still see the occasional dig at it being a big iPod Touch. Of course the pundits were wrong about pricing and about how to classify it. Pundits tend to be reductionists. People found a use for it, and those that wanted it knew they would like it regardless of the reviews.

So now the Surface is out. Reviewers are digging at it, and it honestly seems like it's because a Microsoft has been foolish enough to try to adapt to new market realities by doing new thingsb Microsoft has been foolish enough to adopt a strategy that leverages their strengths, while producing a new interface suited for modern devicesc It's expected that Microsoft ought to be bashed because they are MicrosoftIt's not hard at all to know what you can use the Surface for that you can't do with existing devices.

I find it hard to believe when reviewers and pundits act like they don't get it and feign misunderstanding. At least I hope they are feigning it. The Surface is a powerful, functional, and well built device. It's not perfect, but it's useful in ways that nothing else on the market is. Those people that want the Surface already know it, so it is not surprising that when they buy it they like it.

February 26, For me is a laptop and tablet replacement. The stylus is great too. This is the ultimate combo device. A lot of people will tell you that it's not phenomenal at any particular task. But I believe that it's very good at every task. I've had this device for over a week now and I use it constantly. If you consider it a tablet, it's surely not the lightest which is a feature that is important in a tablet.

It's not the only feature, however. These tiles can also be resized. You can just pick them up and move around which is a fun and nice improvement. It a lot easier to use the mouse to move things around your start screen now. When you move the mouse to the top of the screen the title bar appears and then I can hit and minimize. You can also split the screen by just go to the store, click on the corner in the system menu and split right now. That was always possible before you would grab hold at the top of the screen, pull down and then move over to the right.

So windows 8. It appears now on the top. You can search things just by clicking, no need to go over to the right-hand menu. Here are the different features we think are going to be most relevant and let you, of course, decide whether or not to update.
